MARK Owen hopes his return to scoring form will be beneficial both to Worcester City and himself.

The prolific 22-year-old, City's top scorer for the last two seasons, failed to find the net in the first four games and looked out of sorts as City made an up-and-down start to the Dr Martens League Premier Division season.

But he made up for that with two goals in the 4-2 win at Ilkeston and repeated the feat in the 3-3 home draw with Clevedon, including an equaliser six minutes into injury time.

His general all-round play apart from his goals was also much improved as he struck up a good rapport with new strike partner Carl Tranter, who also managed a goal in each game.

City fans will now hope those four goals can trigger Owen into repeating his previous scoring feats.

Holiday

He said: "Just to score a goal was relieving after the two games over the holiday weekend. In the first two games I thought I did OK but in the next two I was disappointed with myself.

"As a team we have to create chances and hopeful we are doing that now. If I am given service I will be able to continue scoring goals".

The former Wolves trainee, who was the subject of a five-figure bid from rivals Burton Albion last season, is still ambitious to go as far as he can in the game, and playing well for Worcester City.

Owen believes City can have a major say in the title race despite their early-season problems, but says that consistency will be the key.

"We just have to keep playing well and get points in the bag, and the rest will take care of itself.

"We must start getting back-to-back performances in, especially at this stage of the season when there are so many games.

"We have to start getting some consistency, individually as well as a unit. If we can get that together, we can be up there with a shout."
