NEW skipper Alistair Murdoch was keeping his feet well and truly on the ground after a double try burst got his Worcester Rugby Club career off to a flying start at Orrell.

The former Australian international went out onto the wing early in the first half after an injury to Spencer Bromley and took full advantage by twice outpacing the Orrell defence.

He said: "I've played there for New South Wales and Australia so it seemed the obvious thing to do and it turned out good for me because there was a bit of space out there.

"We shouldn't get too carried away. We've come here and got what we wanted -- the bonus point as well as the win -- but there's still a lot of work to do ahead of Leeds, we know that."

Murdoch, who arrived from Bedford in the summer, believed the main plus to come out of the game was the side actually playing together.

Worcester had eight debutants in the line-up at Edge Hall Road and it was the first time the 15 had played with each other in a competitive match.

He added: "Each week it's getting better for us. We get a bit more of an understanding of each player but probably need three or four games before we hit the exact spot."

The 32-year-old centre has now set his sights on Saturday's game with Leeds.

"It's going to be hugely different. They will punish our mistakes, we made a few out there today and they won't make as many as Orrell did.

"Leeds are a full-time side, as fit as we are and we will have to play our best to win."
