AN opening Worcester & District Sunday League division four victory for Keyz was sweet after struggling last season in division three with just one victory to their name.

NORTHWICK SWANS RES 2, KEYZ 2000 4

The match started at a blistering pace and it was the home side who took the lead with an unfortunate own goal. Keyz defender Graty was chasing a long ball into his area and somehow when goalkeeper Cecil went to collect the ball Graty deflected it into the empty net.

The visitors hit back and Lowen, Howells and Collard all went close before Keyz equalised with a cracking effort from Geordie Lowen but the Swans retaliated with a fine finish to go 2-1 up.

Minutes later Keyz Perks scored with a solo effort to level the scoring again and Collard rattled the crossbar with a thunderous free kick.

Splendid wing play by the young Pearson led to Keyz taking the lead when Howells finished neatly before Howells scored the goal of the game latching onto a through ball on the halfway line he shrugged off four defenders before rounding the advancing goalkeeper and firing home.

Man of the match, Mark Howells.

On Sunday, Keyz 2000 face a competitive local derby tie when they entertain Langland Sports in the first round of the Bernard Finnegan Cup. Players meet at Victoria Park 9.45am for 10.30am kick-off.
