A bus service around the Malvern Hills has been nominated for a top industry award.

The Malvern Hills Hopper gives tourists - and locals - the chance to travel a circular route around the Hills and between Malvern and Ledbury every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, between July and October.

The service is in the running for the Buses For Pleasure Award in the Bus Industry Awards 2000. This is a new category rewarding services which encourage visitors to an area to use buses.

The short-list of finalists will be named on October 4, at the NEC in Birmingham, as part of the ExpoCoach 2000 show. The winner will be announced at the Park Lane Hilton, in London, on November 21.

The Hills Hopper, now in its fourth year, is organised by the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty partnership.

Gordon Crump, of JBC Malvernian, which runs the service, said: "Up until last Sunday, we had carried 351 passengers. That's quite a good total and I think it's getting to be better known now."
