DESPITE a superb unbeaten century by Tim Riley, Colwall rounded off their league campaign with a 15 run defeat to Wootton Bassett on Saturday.

COLWALL v WOOTTON BASSETT

Batting first at the visitors took time in adjusting to the Stowe Lane pitch scoring just 56 runs off the first 25 overs and losing two top order wickets. Jordan Kontarines was in fine form to take the first wicket in the fourth over and went on to bowl an impressive seven over spell for the loss of just ten runs. Alleyne and Twine (39) next added the best partnership of the match of 65 in 23 overs but after the latter's dismissal to Dorian Dentith's bowling Wootton Bassett looked for some much needed runs in the final 20 overs.

This duly came as Chanal's 34 in 46 balls propelled the visitor's innings and Alleyne's lightning innings of 75 helped them reach 181 for 7 off their 50 overs. Kontarines claimed both batsmen's wickets and collected figures of 4 for 37 off 13 overs before Richard Williams chipped in with two late wickets.

Skipper Dave Sutton found himself out of the wickets but bowled his first nine overs for just ten runs, the first five all being maidens.

Colwall struggled from the start and fell 15 runs short to a side needing a win to escape relegation. Tim Riley was the only positive point of the innings with a magnificent 106no but the home side's failure to build up a good partnership lost the match. Medium pacer Poulton's 5-45 runs and pace man Cameron (3-34 off 15) were the undoing of Colwall as wickets steadily fell.

Riley accumulated no fewer than 14 boundaries in his excellent innings but with only John Beman being the other Colwall batsman to reach above single figures Colwall fell to 166 all out.

A disappointing end to Colwall's season that saw them finish fourth in their division.
