THE mum of a Bromsgrove worker who was killed in a car crash is urging townsfolk to raise cash in her daughter's memory.

Barbara Hampton has spoken out for the first time since her 20-year-old daughter Sarah died after an accident on the A51 Stourbridge Road in May.

Now she wants to round up sponsors to support the Sarah Hampton Trust to create an eye care clinic in Eastern Europe.

The fund was launched by Sarah's dad, Mike, of Hampton's The Opticians, and sales director Ian Robinson.

They wanted to help Caminul Felix, a charity which provides family units for abandoned children in Romania.

The pair, with Sarah's best friend Helen Smith, have just returned from the country where they delivered eye care equipment to a medical centre.

They did around 200 eye tests on children and adults and were touched when visiting youngsters imprisoned in cots in orphanages

Barbara is inspired because the trust has been dogged by ill-luck.

In July thieves stole one of the fund's charity boxes from the opticians, in Crown Close, where Sarah was a director, and last week another was stolen from a Birmingham cafe.

Barbara said: "Sarah was the first to help others and would have ploughed her savings to help this cause.

"The children in Romania have planted a tree and made a plaque in memory of Sarah.

"I appeal to everyone, children and adults and schools and clubs, to pull out all the stops to support Sarah's fund."

Mike and Ian are planning to carry on fundraising, and another trip is set for October.

Ian said: "It was definitely a disturbing but enlightening experience."
