KIDDERMINSTER Carolians Rugby Club warmed up for their NPI Cup clash with Shrewsbury with a convincing 33-0 home victory over Kings Norton at Marlpool Lane on Saturday.

Despite playing without any recognised centres, KCs proved too strong for the visitors with a hard-working display. They went ahead, after Kings Norton had missed an early penalty attempt, on 11 minutes when Ambro Neri streaked through for the opening try.

Stand-off Andy McLellan missed the conversion before Kings Norton once again failed with another penalty attempt.

Soon after, KCs right winger Barry Turner penetrated deep into their defence and McLellan made up for his earlier miss with a 24th minute penalty.

Shortly before the interval, he added a second to give KCs a 11-0 half-time lead.

Flanker Mark Cleeton picked up and drove over the line for KCs second try and McLellan scored the best try of the match eight minutes later. He jinked his way through the Kings Norton backs and rounded off the try by converting it to make the score 23-0. Simon Northcott and Ian Crockett scored two more unconverted tries to give their side a clear-cut victory.

Meanwhile, KCs seconds drew 41-41 with Kings Norton at Marlpool Lane.
