IT was business as usual at Evesham Sailing Club on Sunday after a week off to allow for holidays.

The two races were part of the Small Craft Series and took place in humid conditions with a steadily increasing breeze.

With a start down river towards the weir, Roger Middleton got away well and was first around the buoy to start the long run back upstream with John Pickford just behind.

Peter Green came through from the back following a dreadful start to come within three boat lengths of Middleton, but it was the latter who triumphed ahead of Green and Pickford.

The second race started in breezy conditions with Green in front at the first buoy with Middleton, Pickford and Roy Timmins side by side across the river competing for second spot.

Green slowly pulled away, all three in turn led the chasing fleet.

Midway through Timmins experienced gear failure and had to seek the safety of the river bank, allowing Middleton to make good his escape and break clear with a cushion from the chasing boats.

Although Pickford tried hard he could make no further headway and it was Green first, Middleton second, with Pickford third again after an enjoyable race.
