TWO unbeaten centuries have won Kempsey's Andy Howorth our Evening News/Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd. Cricketer of the Week award.

He hit an unbeaten 183 against Avoncroft out of a total of 245-6 from 40 overs.

Howorth then scored 106no against Overbury to complete the remarkable achievement.

The Worcester-based player had to wait until after the game to find out his total as he hadn't counted, but was very pleased when he found out.

Tradition

The 30-year-old skipper, opening bat and wicketkeeper wasted no time in celebrating. "The normal tradition is to buy a jug of lager," he said, which is shared round. He joked that his team-mates were costing him a lot of money.

But it hasn't stopped him making centuries, as he has hit over 20 in his career.

Howorth said he prefers a hard bat, which is why "I hit more sixes than most people." He began his 183 with a six and hit a lot of fours as well.

But he is the first to give credit to his team-mates, especially Dave Powell who hit 79no against Overbury to help Kempsey to 236-2.

Howorth's father Brian also plays for Kempsey and his grandfather, Dick Howorth, played for Wor-cestershire and England and has the rare distinction of taking a wicket with his first ball in Test cricket.

So cricket runs in the family. "The only exception is that they were both spin bowlers," Andy said. He also plays for Old Elizabethans on Saturdays.

He wins a £30 voucher for Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd in Sherriff Street, Worcester.

Howorth is our last Crick-eter of the Week of the season, but soon we will be nominating our Cricketer of the Season who will win a top-of-the-range Duncan Fearnley cricket bat.
