PLANS for a two-storey communal dwelling at Kanes Foods in Middle Littleton, to house 38 foreign workers, have been submitted to Wychavon District Council.

Owner, Dr John Randall has drawn up plans for a large house to be set between two he already owns - Homestead and The Beeches - on Cleeve Road immediately in front of his factory buildings.

The ground floor includes a dining hall, kitchen, showers and WCs plus eight twin bedrooms. On the first floor 10 twin bedrooms a shower block and toilets are planned.

Dr Randall said: "The design of the house will match the other two. The house itself should improve the view from the road as it will hide most of the factory building behind it.

"At present I own three houses and we rent about 19 in Evesham for the students who come mainly from South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

"If these plans are passed accommodation will be much improved for them and there will be less time lost ferrying them back and forth from Evesham in the six mini-buses we lay on."

Construction at the 14-acre fresh vegetable packing site is already under way after previous plans for a new packing factory were passed.

The firm employs 500 people - 100 of them foreign students - and has a turnover of about £35million.

Dr Randall said a move to Vale Park, Evesham's new industrial estate, would be far too expensive.

Wychavon district councillor for the area, Richard Lasota said: "I would not be against any plans which reduce traffic, especially at night, however I am reserving judgement until I have time to study them carefully."
