SUE and Terry Waters from Wickhamford hit the right note when they raised £145 for the St John Ambulance Appeal at their home last Saturday.

They held a musical coffee morning from 10.30am and Mrs Waters entertained friends and neighbours by playing tunes on the organ.

Mr Waters, who is an auctioneers' clerk at Evesham Fruit and Vegetable Auction Market at Offenham, said: "We often raise money for charity so after we read about the St John Appeal we decided to support it because it's a really good cause.

"St John Ambulance volunteers are a great group of people who give up their weekends for the public and we are very glad to have helped them."

Mrs Waters said the organ was a silver wedding present from her husband, and friends were always asking her to play.

She said: "It was a lovely, homely atmosphere, we had a bring and buy and a raffle as well, with some great prizes, including a big basket of fruit which was given to us by Paul Betts from Evesham Central Market."

The total included a £50 donation from Evesham Market's Fruit and Vegetables charity cup, which is a cup employees add to every time a cup of tea or coffee is made.

Hundreds of pounds have come into the Journal office in response to the St John Ambulance Appeal for a new vehicle.

Over the last couple of weeks, £550 has been donated by groups and individuals who have responded to our appeal to help raise the cash for an off-road ambulance.
