BUBBLY Evesham United fans will be hoping for more champagne stuff when the FA Cup, sponsored by AXA, comes to Common Road on Saturday.

Western League Bideford are the visitors for a preliminary qualifying round tie and it's a game manager Phil Mullen and his charge are hungry for.

"We will take on anybody at the moment," the Evesham boss declared after Monday's rousing victory over Rugby. "Let's make hay while the sun is shining and give the supporters something more to shout about."

Mullen admitted he knows little about this weekend's opponents but that is nothing new.

"I know little about most of the sides we come up against but we will just play our normal game and that should see us through," he said.

The United chief is delighted to be at the helm of the only side in the entire Dr Martens League with a 100 per cent record, but he knows what lies ahead.

"I am pleased with the way the new lads have settled in and obviously happy with the manner in which Sam (Bowen) and Dean (Roberts) have teamed up.

"They've done tremendously well over the past two games but they have done little in pre-season and there is still a lot more to come.

"We lost top spot for about four hours on Monday but we are happy to be back there. There's some difficult games coming up in the league but bring 'em on I say."

Unbeaten Shepshed were the side to take over at the summit after Monday's 2-0 defeat of Ather-stone and the top two meet on September 9.

Three days later, Bilston Town, the only other unbeaten side in the Western Division, visit Common Road for a League Cup tie, while Hinckley United, who slammed nine past hosts Rocester on Monday, make the same trip on September 23.

Three days later, Tiverton Town, who United lost to 4-3 in the FA Cup last term, are the visitors to Common Road.

A double dose of Devonian knockout defeat is unthinkable on current form although, if the scores are level after 90 minutes, a replay will take place at Bideford next Tuesday (7.45).

Saturday's tie is being sponsored by Cotswold Provisions and the ball by the Fairfield Inn.
