A man with a £120 a week cannabis habit burgled 10 homes to feed his addiction.

One victim was a Wolverley widow who was twice raided by Raymond Howles and lost a cigarette box presented to her late husband, Worcester Crown Court heard.

He was caught after neighbours watched him breaking into a Kidderminster home and gave a running commentary to police by phone.

Father-of-two Howles, 22, of Upton Road, Sion Hill, Kidderminster, was jailed for three years.

He admitted three burglaries and one attempted break-in. He asked for seven more raids and one attempted raid to be taken into consideration.

Jonathan Gosling, prosecuting, said Howles grabbed property worth £3,650 from raids during May and June this year.

But he was captured after trying to break into a house in Walker Drive, Broadwaters, on June 18.

Devan Rampersad, defending, said his drug addiction had spiralled out of control.

The building worker planned to marry his long-standing partner when released from custody.

"He is feeling bad about what he has done and understands how the victims must have felt," added Mr Rampersad. Howles had received drug counselling while in custody.
