THE message from Bromsgrove Rovers boss George Rooney is clear: we must improve at the back.

He said yesterday he had been embarrassed by some of the schoolboy errors which have gifted teams goals this season.

Rooney's patience is wearing thin and he wants the problems sorted out by Saturday when his side travel to Sutton Coldfield Town in the FA Cup preliminary round.

He said: "I felt we deserved to win on Monday even after being one nil down after 90 seconds.

"We created two excellent goals but our defending for their last two goals was unbelievably poor.

"Nearly all the goals we have conceded this season have been through the middle.

"We aren't covering or picking people up. You can't defend like that and leave it to chance.

"It's extremely frustrating and I don't know how long we can carry on like this.

"I want to keep faith in the players we have but we must improve on Saturday.

"Otherwise, they will be telling me something I don't want to hear."

Sutton proved a happy hunting ground for the Rovers last Tuesday when they secured their first league win of the season.

But the players know they are in for a tough match after they had to dig deep to keep their slender lead in tact.
