FECKENHAM villagers will get a look at the future on Thursday, September 7, when they get a chance to examine plans for a proposed housing development.

Chase Homes Ltd has submitted an application for 28 two and three storey houses on land just off High Street.

In March, villagers had their first chance to look at plans and put questions to councillors and planners and a revised layout was submitted in May.

The main concern of residents was the ability of the village to cope with increased traffic on an already busy road.

Feckenham councillor Antonia Pulsford said: "Heavy traffic in High Street is something residents have been concerned about for a long time. The through-traffic is the biggest worry.

"There have been suggestions made that the developers should upgrade Rock Hill Lane, which would ease traffic through the main street, but this would be expensive.

"Generally, the amendments made by the developers, such as ensuring taller houses don't overlook existing homes, have helped ease villagers' concerns."

There is also a question as to whether trees with a preservation order will be felled to allow access to the development, a public footpath may be affected and as Feckenham fields are an area of special scientific interest, English Heritage may have concerns.

But parish councillor Doug Hickman believes the development is a positive and long awaited addition for Feckenham.

He said: "We have been promised this off and on for nearly 20 years now.

"We're finally a step closer and these houses are looking like becoming a reality.

"I would urge all villagers to come and look at the plans and see what's proposed for the village."

The plans will be exhibited at the village hall from 4-8pm.
