REDDITCH students are celebrating academic success once again as pupils reaped a bumper crop of GCSE passes.

At St Augustine's High School, an impressive 54.5 per cent of pupils gained five or more passes at A* to C.

Lawrence Harrison, Catherine Thomas and Eleanor Caney all excelled by gaining 10 A and A* grades.

Headteacher Carol Buchanan said: "This is once again an excellent year for St Augustine's pupils."

Arrow Vale Community Sports College pupils were also celebrating after gaining an average score of 43.6 per cent, six per cent higher than last year.

Top of the class was Adam Tilt, with 12 A and A* grades.

Assistant headteacher Roger Satterthwaite said: "We are extremely proud and the pupils are thrilled with their results."

Woodrush High School achieved an impressive average of 54.8 per cent, higher than the target of 50 per cent they had agreed with the county.

Headteacher Sue Kirkham said: "The pupils worked hard to gain their brilliant results. We set a high target for ourselves and we managed to beat it."

The Leys High School gained an average of 22 per cent, a slight rise on last year and went against the national average with the boys coming in level with the girls.

Tim Allen came top with 11 A and A* grades and another pupil, who has special educational needs, proved hard work and determination pays off by gaining one C, two Ds and one E grade.

Acting headteacher David Mayes said: "A fair reflection of how pupils did is by measuring what they've achieved from their starting point and our results show real progress."

The Abbey High School saw improved results for the fourth time in five years, with the average score rising by three per cent.

A spokesman said: "We are delighted with high-flying students, such as Imran Masood, who gained 11 passes, nine at the highest grade, but also students who exceeded their target grades based on Key Stage 3 test results."

And there were happy faces in abundance at Bridley Moor High School as pupils received their results.

The school gained an average score of 41 per cent passes, with the star pupil being John Mindham, who gained 10 A and A* grades.

Deputy headteacher Roger Fooks said: "The students are all very pleased with themselves and this is great news for the school, especially after our recent A-level success."

Celebrating in the sunshine was the call of the day at Studley High School, as pupils notched an average score of 60 per cent at A* to C and 87 per cent at A* to D.

Star performers were Kathryn Morris with 9 A and A* and one C, and George Noakes who received nine A and A*, one B and one C.

Headteacher Barry Kennaugh said: "I am quite justifiably delighted with the results. The school has been a great place of celebration today."
