KIDDERMINSTER Harriers assistant manager Gary Barnett is enjoying every minute of life in the Football League.

But for Jan Molby's right-hand man it's just the start of what he hopes will be a fairytale era at Aggborough.

Barnett knows the vital ingredients needed for success in the Nationwide League Division Three include hard work, dedication and improvement.

"Obviously, we want to improve the players - that's got to be the aim.

"Now we have got them every day we want to improve their techniques and their individual abilities and get together a squad that's going to do well in the Third Division."

Barnett admits that the response he and Molby have received from the players has been first class.

"It's been very encouraging. The players all worked very hard in pre-season and helped each other when the going has been tough, particularly during swimming and running and when we had to put the work in on the Danish trip.

"But having the lads together all the time obviously improves team spirit. They get to know each other a lot more and we all really do get on and work well together."

Barnett expects another buzz of excitement around Aggborough today when Halifax Town are the visitors.

"In our opening match against Torquay the crowd were fantastic and I think they really enjoyed it. The result was certainly the most important factor, but also there was some good football played."

Barnett believes that there is only a "fine line" in strength between the better clubs in the Nationwide Conference and the Third Division.

"But looking at our players they have adapted very well, considering some of them hadn't trained full-time before. They have adjusted well and that's the main thing."
