THE sound of air-cooled engines filled the skies around Malvern at the weekend when 7,000 Volkswagen enthusiasts rolled into town for Vanfest 2005.

The show at the Three Counties Showground, organised by the Volkswagen Type 2 Owners Club, has grown to become the biggest VW Transporter event in the world.

Alongside the magnificent display of vehicles - the Vanfest Show & Shine saw some of the finest Transporters ever seen - there were 200 trade stands, a craft fair and a funfair to keep visitors entertained.

Live bands playing 60s music wowed the crowds on Friday and Saturday night, and for those who like things a little more peaceful, the Transporter's Tavern was open for drinks.

Show organiser Simon Holloway said people had travelled from as far afield as Florida, Germany, Holland, Spain and France for this year's event.

"The event has just got huge," he said.

"Almost to the point where the Three Counties Showground isn't big enough to cater for it.

"But we want to stay here for future events and will be working with the appropriate parties to try and ensure that."
