THE grim years of World War II will be relived in a Bromsgrove village on Saturday through words, pictures and artefacts dating from the period.

Preparing for Saturday's wartime reflections are Suzanne James with Catherine Simcox and Dave James.

Catshill Wartime Nostalgia Day runs from 10am to 4pm at Catshill Village Hall, in Golden Cross Lane. Organisers have secured funding from the Big Lottery Fund to stage the day to commemorate 60 years since the end of the conflict.

Catherine Simcox, the chief organiser, said: "I want to recognise the valued contribution of all our residents who served, supported or grew up in the war years. This free family open day will give a real taste of the wartime era in an educational, but enjoyable way.

"Bromsgrove Museum is kindly lending part of its 'Bromsgrove at War' exhibition, as well as wartime exhibits loaned from the Severn Valley Railway, and local residents."

Several WWII re-enactment groups will represent the various nations and roles. There will also be military vehicles and displays including rationing and wartime childhood memories.

A tea dance has been arranged for local residents, who will enjoy a big band and fish & chip supper, all funded by the lottery.

"What better way to say thank you to these VIP guests, whose contribution in the war effort fully deserve our thanks and admiration - and what better way than treating them to some free hospitality," Catherine added.
