Barnt Green Spartak 3 Dudley Sports 0

WARREN Sewell's brace made sure that Spartak kept a firm grip at the top of the Midland Combination Premier Division on Saturday.

Victory keeps the early season pace setters ahead of second placed Atherstone Town.

Sewell opened the scoring in the 30th minute when he collected Alex Lewis' path and slotted it underneath Dudley's goalkeeper.

He doubled the lead in the 58th minute when he rounded the goalkeeper.

Simon Campbell then sealed the rout in the 80th minute when he slotted Delroy Brown's cross home.

Manager GJ Singh said: "We never looked in doubt of losing the match - especially after we scored the second goal.

"We did what we needed to do and got the three points we needed."

Green went into Saturday's game on the back of a hard fought victory over crisis stricken Highgate United last Wednesday.

Singh's former assistant at Spartak, Frank Kramer, had quit Highgate as manager on the evening of the match.

Spartak took advantage of the problems that beset their rivals and went in search of the opening goal.

Simeon Smith proved to be the difference between the two sides as he scored twice in the first half to seal victory.

Spartak have a free weekend before taking on Premier Division rivals Coventry Sphinx away on Wednesday, September 21 (7.45pm kick off).

Barnt Green's reserves top the Midland Combination Division Three after thumping Bolehall Swift's second string 15-0 on Saturday.

Goals for Singh (4), Black (2), Richards, Rattray, Campbell and Taylor sealed a massive victory.

GJ Singh was pleased with the club's progress so far this season.

He said: "The first team and reserves are top of the table.

"It's a good sign that the club is progressing in the right direction.

"The reserves have got off to a great start and have scored a lot of goals."
