BARNT Green CC go into Saturday's game away at relegation battling Halesowen knowing they are one win away from winning the Birmingham and District League Premier Division title (12.30pm start).

The Green needs to acquire maximum points in the final game of the season to make sure of the championship.

Their fate is in their own hands after all of the top four's matches on Saturday were rained off.

Anything less than victory on Saturday would give the chance for Old Hill, Himley and West Bromwich Dartmouth overtake them at the top of the table.

However, team manager Paul Clarke believes his team goes into the match in the strongest position.

He said: "We know what we have to do and we are determined to do it. It's all boils down to a cup final again, really. If we win the game then the title is ours."

Green been have inches away from winning silverware twice this summer, losing in the finals of the Graham Williamson Trophy and the Cockspur National Knockout Cup.

However, the league title was always the main target for the season, after they finished runners-up in 2004.

Clarke said: "The league is the big one, the one we've all worked very hard for."

Green face a testing game against a Halesowen side, which will be desperate for the win that would give them a chance of escaping the relegation zone.

Green's title rivals all face teams languishing near the bottom, with West Bromwich Dartmouth entertaining Moseley and Himley playing Leamington.

Clarke said: "Our rivals are in the same position as us against teams fighting for survival. The difference is our fate is in our own hands."

On Saturday Green's chances of sealing the title a week early were killed off, when rain forced the game at home to Wellington to be abandoned.

Clarke said: "We won the toss and were looking forward to the game. The rain wasn't heavy, but it didn't stop all day."
