RESIDENTS in Broadway have called for better youth facilities and more information about what is going on in the village.

They responded in force to a survey which will form the basis of a proposed parish plan, and their requests were discussed at a consultation meeting at the Lifford Hall last week.

Mary McGuire, one of the organisers, said: "One of the biggest things that came up was communication, communication, communication. People want better newsletters and more information about meetings and events in the village and this is something we will be looking at.

"Another thing was more facilities for the youth, and that was a request from across the board not just from young people."

The parish plan initiative has been popular from the outset, with more than 300 attending an open meeting earlier this year.

A group of about 45 people, including members of the parish plan steering group, village organisations and local councils, were invited to attend last week's meeting and will now draw up a draft plan which will be presented to Broadway Parish Council at the end of October.

The parish council is expected to adopt some of the recommendations, whilst others will be referred to Wychavon District Council and Worcestershire County Council.

Ms McGuire said that she was very pleased with the response to the initiative from the outset and added: "What was encouraging from the consultation evening was the high turnout and also the real willingness to engage in discussion. There's a lot of interest and energy to get things done and take part in Broadway, which is a beautiful village."
