WORCESTER Cricket Club travelled to Somerset for their annual tour and came away with a win and a loss.

In the first game at the picturesque ground of Winscombe, Worcester won by 39 runs.

The city side batted first in the 40-over game and made 255 all out with Richard Franklin clubbing 93.

Franklin had good support from Dan McKay (64) and Ashley Brown (43).

The best bowler for the home side was Bob Dover with 4-36.

Winscombe batted solidly in reply making 216 all out, with seven batsmen getting double figures.

But the hosts failed to reach their target as Peter Breakwell took 3-38 for Worcester.

In the second game, Worcester lost to Weston-super-Mare by eight wickets.

Worcester batted first on a lively pitch and made 229 all out with Richard Gardiner leading the way with a fine 58.

Gardiner was backed up by Paul Symmonds (24) and McKay (48). Reg Booth took 3-34 for Weston.

In reply, Hugh Booth (102) and Sadiq Ahmed (102) led the way for the home side's victory.

Batting in poor light, they saw their side home to 233-2 in the 29th over.

n Worcester Nomads' Sunday Second XI entertained Belbroughton at Bransford on a drying wicket.

Belbroughton decided to bat first after winning the toss and they kept the board ticking over.

But the villagers did not really get on top of the tight bowling off the two youngsters Tom Malone (4-42) and James Welchman (2-28).

Belbroughton finished their 40 overs on 177-8, probably 40 runs short.

Nomads got off to a disastrous start in reply and were struggling at 19-3.

The target started to look a long way off at that point but Nic Lloyd (49no) and Malcolm Jones (99no) put on an unbroken fourth-wicket partnership of 160 to see Nomads home by seven wickets off 30 overs.
