MALVERN downhill mountain biker Tracy Moseley took an emphatic win in the final round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup on home soil in Fort William, Scotland on Sunday.

More than 10,000 mountain biker supporters made the trip up to Fort William to witness the final of the eight-round world cup series.

Tracy was lying in second position going into this final round, so she knew she had to win to have a chance at taking the overall series title.

After qualifying in first position in front of series leader Sabrina Jonnier, of France, Tracy knew she just had to do it again in the final. Just before the final, some Scottish mist and rain came rolling in to make the course a little slippery, but luckily it did not affect Tracy's nerve. She flew down the hill in a time of 4.59min to take the win ahead of fellow Brit Rachel Atherton.

Unfortunately the series leader Sabrina Jonnier took third and enough points to take the overall title from Tracy by just 35 points.

Tracy said: "It's amazing to have won in front of such a loyal home crowd. I won my first ever world cup here in Fort William in 2002, so it is great to come back and do it again. Also to finish second in the World Cup is a great achievement. Obviously I was hoping to try and win, but this is my best result so far. Next year I hope to take the number one spot."

Tracy has been helped a lot with her fitness training over the winter and during this summer by Brain Philpotts, who has been training her at Banana Fitness at Malvern Splash.

Tracy said: "Brian has helped me so much with my strength and fitness. His sessions have helped me achieve so much more than I would ever have done on my own."

Fort William has been chosen to host the World Championships in September 2007 so, hopefully, Tracy will be back to go for gold for Great Britain.
