Malvern people braved the rain and flocked to Priory Park for the Party in the Park.

Jan Bradford, of TG's Project, which co-organised Saturday's event with Malvern Hills District Council, said the response had been fantastic.

She estimated that up to 2,000 people visited the park throughout the day.

"It was amazing. They just brought umbrellas," said Ms Bradford. "It was really throwing it down in the morning and we were worried, but we pressed on with it anyway."

Party in the Park featured a whole afternoon of music, showcasing some of the finest performers, bands and DJs from the area and beyond.

The headliner was reggae singer Ben Okafor who, at the end of the day, electrified the crowd with his rendition of Bob Marley's No Woman No Cry.

"We really want to thank all of our sponsors for helping the day to be a success," said Ms Bradford .

Apart from MHDC, these included Brookhire, QinetiQ, Malvern Instruments, EW Commercial Publications, www.playing-the-field.com, Elmley Arts Fund, Peter Bonomini Flooring and Worcestershire Youth Service.

TG's Project aims to build an indoor skate park, cafe and youth venue in Malvern and was set up in memory of Tim Greenwood.

The search is on for a site, with work expected to start in 2007

"The aim of Saturday's event was mainly to raise the profile of the project, but any proceeds will be split between the project and Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood," said Ms Bradford.
