SECURITY-conscious residents in a Worcester suburb are being urged to take part in a scheme that would see their valuables being protected from burglars.

A police initiative targeting householders in Warndon will see special stickers being given to residents, which they can put on belongings such as televisions and stereos.

It will enable them to be traced back to their owner if they are ever stolen. The event, which takes place at Lyppard Grange Community Centre on Tuesday, September 20, between 6pm and 8pm, has been organised by Lee Russell, Community Safety Officer for Warndon, and beat manager Police Constable Nick Davies.

"We want as many people to come along as possible," said CSO Russell.

"By having your valuable items security marked it will help us in our drive to reduce burglary and crime in general. Each resident will need to bring along some proof of identification and address, such as a utility bill.

"They will be then given the stickers, which, once put on items of property, become permanently engraved with security numbers."
