FORTUNATELY, it was a fine afternoon when teas were served to visitors at The Hill, Staunton, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs J Luard, as a fundraising event for Staunton Church funds. This was unlike Saturday, when there was torrential rain during the wedding of Miss Camilla Luard to Mr Toby Moore.

St James' Church had been beautifully decorated with roses, lilies, alstromeria, nerines and hydrangeas in colours of pink and white. Inevitably the rain did manage to seep into one or two places in the church.

Worshippers at the morning service of holy communion on Sunday were able to enjoy the beauty of the flowers. The service was conducted by The Rev. Canon John Evans assisted by Ursula Groves-Smith, the lesson reader was Nigel Smith and the offertory was taken by Stan Cotton, churchwarden. The organist was Holly Chapman.
