WHEN I heard about the proposed closures of the A&E and maternity departments at the Alexandra Hospital, I was appalled and I think it is a disgrace.

I suffer with asthma and eczema.

I have always received valuable and excellent care from this hospital.

Management do not care how far people will have to travel to Worcester. They do not care whether it is life threatening, they do not care whether you have a car or whether there is public transport.

These days, the management that runs NHS hospitals come from outside and are not promoted from within.

They award themselves fat pay rises and fat bonuses, while nurses get charged for parking and get a next-to-nothing pay rise, which is totally wrong.

Also, the general public have to pay for parking every time they visit a patient, which I also think is wrong, particularly if you have to go every day.

It is about time people who work within the NHS, who know the workings of it, were promoted to management level because it is for the above reasons health trusts are in debt.

The Labour Government has pumped more money into the NHS than the Conservatives ever did in all the years they were in power and the public are sick and tired of hearing about hospitals being in financial trouble.

The money has not been going to the wards or nurses.

I have a suggestion to make to the management which is running the Alex to solve its debt problem - make some of the management team, such as administrators, consultants and office staff, not doctors, redundant - because when I visit the hospital I see more office staff than nurses and wonder what they all do.
