A PAIR of Coughton landlords are renewing their appeal for local cricket teams to rent their field as a cricket pitch.

Nigel Staley, who owns the Throckmorton Arms with his brother Adrian, told the Chronicle they had generated some interest but were still looking for local groups to get involved.

The pair were granted planning permission earlier this year to use a field next to the A435 pub as a cricket club, and are looking for a group, club, or individual to take on a lease for a minimum of 10 years at a rate of £1 a year.

"We have had a bit of interest, but we're still looking for people and local clubs," he said.

"It really has to be someone who will make a lot of use of it."

Whoever rents the ground will have to come up with roughly half the cost of development, which would include levelling the field, replacing the topsoil, creating a square to provide four or five wickets, installing drainage, re-seeding the grass, and burying overhead power lines.

They will also be responsible for maintaining and running the ground.

Mr Staley said if they did not find tenants by around January or February, they would start to look out of the immediate area.

He added: "If we have to go to a wider field it's not ideal, we would much rather get people from a five to six mile radius."
