At a time when our local farmers and egg-producers must be enduring many nights of lost sleep, worrying about their flocks catching avian flu, common sense suggests that it might be a good idea to restrict the hens to an indoor environment. Unfortunately, the Government is powerless to act and must seek action from the European Commission to order the confinement of poultry and relax the rules on free-range eggs. We are powerless to control our own destiny.
Just another example of why the United Kingdom should not be a member of the EU.
