LEADERS of the Transport And General Workers' Union in the West Midlands have welcomed Birmingham International Airport's plans to expand.

John Partridge, the T&G's deputy regional secretary, believes proposals for a third passenger terminal and a new runway have many economic benefits.

"There is no doubt the 21st century will continue to see growth in aviation and it is right that Birmingham and the West Midlands tap into that," Mr Partridge said.

"In our view each job at the airport is responsible for at least a further two more in the region. That means the potential economic benefits are great."
