JUNIOR boys from the Evesham club took Marlow by storm last weekend with some outstanding performances over a difficult and long course.

Eight competitors were in action and they returned home with two first places, three seconds and two thirds.

The Long Distance Sculls Championship is rowed over 4,800m and requires intense concentration to steer round a fearsome bend on the Thames.

While Evesham rowers have plenty of experience of steering around the bends on the Avon it takes some skill to navigate unfamiliar water while still putting in the work to win races.

Ali Gregory, who has been in top form top form this season, was a class winner in the junior men's Single Sculls after clocking an impressive time of 19 minutes 18.39 seconds.

Close behind was Tom Most whose time of 19.25.83 earned him second place in his class out of a total field of 130 competitors with the pair finishing eighth and ninth overall.

Three boys competed in the J15 Single Sculls and fought off ten other competitors to pick up first, second and third places.

Will Tew, continuing an outstanding series of rows, claimed top spot in 20.24.87. Oli Staite was just seven seconds behind (20.31.50) and third was Rory Sullivan (20.40.71).

J16 competitor Tom Walker picked up second place with a time of 20.40.72 - a good performance against strong competition from the home club.

There were 16 double scull crews including Jon and Ben Farrar, racing at J14, who came second (21.11.11) behind an outstanding crew from Tide-way Scullers.
