ANTI-greyhound racing campaigners claim they drummed up support from several hundred Kidderminster people during a day of action in the town.

Greyhound Action members said they were inundated by people wanting to sign a pledge boycotting William Hill bookmakers until the company ceases all involvement with dog racing at a stall last Thursday.

It coincided with a national day of action organised by the Kidderminster-based group.

Protesters, who claim the sport leads to the death of thousands of greyhounds a year either because they do not make the grade or after they are retired, are calling on all bookies to move over to virtual - computerised - racing instead.

Greyhound Action co-ordinator, Tony Peters, said: "We always get very big support from the public because people in this country are very fond of dogs."
