TRAFFIC on a busy Stourport road had to be diverted to allow an air ambulance to land on the highway so a woman driver could be airlifted to hospital.

Two cars collided on the Hartlebury road out of Stourport during the morning rush hour on Tuesday at around 8.45am.

The vehicles involved were a Nissan Micra and Citroen Xsara.

The Micra ended up in a hedge and the female driver, who was on her own in the vehicle, had to be cut free as the door was jammed, although the car was not badly damaged.

She was taken by the County Air Ambulance to Selly Oak Hospital with suspected back and neck injuries but was expected to be discharged on the same day.

A middle-aged couple and two children in the Xsara were taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital but were all discharged following treatment.

Both vehicles involved in the accident were registered to Stourport addresses.

Police spokeswoman, Lynne Masters, said officers set up a temporary diversion via Wilden Lane as traffic began to tail back following the accident.

The scene was cleared within about 30 minutes.
