YOUNG singers with stars in their eyes descended on Bowl Xtreme to take part in a talent competition, each hoping to win fantastic prizes.

About 120 youngsters took part in the opening audition of Xtreme Factor at the Worcester bowling centre on Sunday.

The competition, based on ITV's The X Factor, will enable youngsters to showcase their talent in a series of weekly live heats and eliminations leading up to a grand final in January.

The winners of two age categories, one for youngsters aged between six and 10 and the other for 11 to 16-year-olds, will walk away with the star prize of £500, a mountain bike and the chance to record a CD, courtesy of straker.com in London Road, Worcester.

One of the judges, Sarah Thompson, said that the response to the event had been so big that organisers were holding a second audition on Sunday.

"I can't believe how talented the children were, they were absolutely amazing," she said. "The weekly shows every Sunday will be great entertainment, so please come and support these talented local children."

The successful singers will go through to the first live heat on Sunday, November 13.

Anyone who is interested must complete a registration form at the centre in Droitwich Road, Perdiswell, at the beginning of Sunday's event, ready to perform later that day.

The runners up in each age group will also win mountain bikes, courtesy of Carlsberg.
