ANCHOR Falcons' depressing start to the season continued on Sunday when they were trounced 4-0 by high-flying CMB Sports at Dysons, leaving them anchored to the bottom of Sunday division two.

Their terrible run of form has seen them lose nine out of ten matches, and despite some improvement in recent weeks there is no sign of a winning run on the horizon.

With John Goode and Will Hale absent, Alan Evans partnered Paul Park in midfield, whilst Russ Collins led the front line with Rich Lambert. A solid start would have been minimum requirement against a side of CMB's calibre, but even that wish was extinguished when a long through ball after just two minutes deceived the home defence and Marcus Henney in the home goal was helpless as the ball was belted home from 12 yards.

On 18 minutes it was 2-0, Falcons right back Chris Williams diverting a low ball into the box straight past his own keeper.

Despite the two goal difference the balance of play was strangely in favour of Anchor, with their forward play showing plenty of adventure. Mike Griffin, Paul Park and Lambert all presented with chances that went begging. Dyl Wilkins, whose performances at centre half have been one of the few highlights in recent games - and again earned him the man of the match accolade in this encounter - continued in the same vein with a sterling performance of defending. But even he was unable to prevent CMB's third. Having soaked up the pressure from Anchor, the visitors broke down the right and after a interchange of passing the ball was drilled home from 20 yards.

After the interval the expected Anchor onslaught struggled to prevail as too often tackles were missed, and the passing play they strived for failed to materialise. There were glimpses - Evans continued to probe from midfield, and there were several long free kicks into the CMB box but the killer instinct appeared sadly missing.

On the hour, CMB made it 4-0, and the Falcons looked a dejected outfit. With 25 minutes to go Jon Hale was introduced up front and that did appear to give the Falcons a slight spark, albeit too late.
