PLANS for a showman's site in Holberrow Green look set to be turned down by Wychavon District Council at a planning meeting tomorrow.

In a comprehensive 20-page report to the committee, planning officer Robert Peel has set out 11 reasons for refusal which include all the issues highlighted by Holberrow Green Action Group (HGAG) and 750 objections by residents in the surrounding area.

Members of the group are delighted the controversial plans for 16 plots are being recommended for refusal.

HGAG chairman Roger Fleury said: "We are extremely pleased our concerns are shared by Mr Peel, who clearly backs our view that this is a totally unsuitable site for what is being proposed.

"Mr Peel's report describes the development as 'alien and intrusive,' arguing that there is no special need to justify the proposals in light of the adverse impact they would have on residents and the rural character of Holberrow Green.

"The dangerous access to the site off a bend on the B4092 is another reason for refusal as is the increased risk of flooding and the lack of local facilities which makes such a large development unsustainable."

The plans put forward to Wychavon District Council by Countryman Fairs (Inkberrow) Ltd affect a six-acre field bordering Morton Hall Lane and the B4092 between Inkberrow and Astwood Bank.

Residents believe the developed site would house more than 100 people who would store and maintain more than 300 fairground rides, burger bars caravans, lorries and other vehicles.

Among those to oppose the plans are Redditch MP Jacqui Smith, the Environment Agency, the Council for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE), and Inkberrow Parish Council.
