STOURPORT Swifts are hoping Saturday's victory at fellow stugglers Thame United - the first win in 14 matches - is the start of things to come .

A first half opener from Chris Hughes and Rory May's second half double put the seal on a success which give Swifts a bit of breathing space near the foot of Southern League Division One West.

Stourport, who have shown a marked improvement under new management team Roy Rencher and Jake Findlay recently, came out with all guns blazing.

Hughes broke the deadlock around the quarter hour mark when he headed in after good work from Shaun Findlay and Richard Burgess down the right.

Thame, who are propping up the table, hit back before the break when the ball was defelcted in off Swifts' Russell Dodds following a goalmouth scramble.

But the Walshes Meadow men kept plugging away and after a bright spell of attacking football got their just rewards when May struck twice after the interval.

His first came with a fine solo effort from the edge of the box with the second a backpost header from a corner.

Assistant boss Findlay said: "With the way we have been playing recently it was only a matter of time before we got the win and hopefully that will kick-start things for us. If anything, we are starting to show promotion rather than relegation form because we're keeping it tight at the back and creating lots of chances."

Swifts hope to boost their attacking options by adding Feckenham's former Redditch, Studley and Bedworth striker Lee Ross to their ranks this week.

Ross was involved in a serious car accident several years ago but has come back with a vengeance and has recently been banging in the goals.

Ross could go straight into the squad for Saturday's visit trip to Bracknell Town, their longest away trip of the season.
