DUE to work commitments, John Varilone is unable to play for Kidderminster Chess Club until the New Year, and the Wolverhampton and District League Division Two side is badly missing him.
Team captain Mike Kitchen found is squad's availability so stretched that he was forced to default a game at Birmingham Settlement.
Against useful opposition, the side found such a handicap too great and suffered a 5-1 defeat, their third in succession, compounding their relegation worries.
