DAVE Busst wishes for an early Christmas present in the shape of six Southern Premier League points.

As Evesham United strive to fight off relegation, boss Busst is targeting immediate back-to-back victories in their fight to beat the drop, starting with tomorrow's clash against Banbury United at Common Road (3pm).

The Robins then travel to mid-table Hitchin Town next Saturday, before facing three games in eight days after Christmas.

United's fixture at Mangotsfield Town last weekend was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, but results elsewhere went in their favour, with struggling rivals Cheshunt, Cirencester and Gloucester all losing.

"We would have preferred Cheshunt drawing with Rugby," said Busst. "Northwood won, which was a bit of a shock, but the results could have been worse.

"However, everything is down to us. We cannot be looking to others slipping up. We've now got two really important games to put ourselves in a good position before Christmas. We must carry on our decent run in the league.

"We've got three games in eight days after Christmas, but it's the next two games against Banbury and Hitchin that are most important.

"People say that if you are in the bottom four or top four after Christmas, then nothing much changes to the end of the season.

"I'm not sure, but we realise how important the next month is."

Banbury beat them 3-2 last month, but Busst is confident United will come out on top this time.

Busst said: "That was another one of those games where we deserved something. They are a good, footballing side, but we got into them."

Defender Mike Feeley, a recent signing from Redditch, is awaiting his full debut since joining the Robins on a permanent move.
