WITH none of the three registered goalkeepers available and several players struggling with illness, Powick went out of the Worcester Saturday League Cup's Baylis Cup.

MARTLEY SPURS 3, POWICK 1

The game was played in a scrappy manner and during an even first-half neither side managed to put together any consistent quality.

Stand-in goalkeeper and man-of- the-match Dean Drinkwater was in good form and dealt well with two long-range efforts.

The chance of the half fell to Stu Harvey after a clever back-heel from Robbie Perrins, but the Martley goalkeeper saved smartly.

Despite trying to raise their tempo Powick continued to struggle to find top gear and in the second-half the game looked destined to head for extra time.

With 15 minutes left, a Martley cross sailed into the far corner of the net.

Powick's response was pleasing and following excellent build-up from Sam Dakin and Gary Henderson, Stu Harvey managed a neat turn and finish to level the tie.

This hard work was then abruptly undone by some abject defending which saw Martley secure their passage into the next round.

On the balance of play Martley edged the contest, but Powick must learn lessons from this defeat and secure three valuable points against Hallow in the league tomorrow (Saturday).
