Peter Smith (Your Letters, December 23) suggests the gas lamp which inspired C S Lewis for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is that situated at the junction of Abbey Road and College Road.
I have another suggestion: a lamp which stands on a footpath running between the Holywell Road and the Wells Road through thick trees and gives that impression of surprise at the absurdity of a lamp in the middle of a wood that is so characteristic of the story. Perhaps if Peter would like to come for a walk on the hills, I can show him this lamp and we could discuss the matter further.
