two men who died at an accident blackspot near Ledbury have been named.

David Haines, aged 35, and Malcolm Ward, 44, both of Droitwich, were on their way to Tenby to deliver Christmas presents on December 22.

Their Toyota Yaris was in collision with a lorry on the A4103 close to Leighton Court, near Fromes Hill.

Mr Haines was pronounced dead at the scene; Mr Ward died later that day at Selly Oak Hospital.

A man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was released on bail while inquiries continue. An inquest was opened and adjourned last Friday (December 30) by the Herefordshire coroner.

Families of both men have paid tribute to them.

Alaina Haines said she and her four children had been devastated by the loss of a husband and father.

"The children want everyone to know that they loved him to bits - he wasn't just their dad, he was their friend. David was a fantastic man and a perfect gentleman."

Mr Haines was well known in Droitwich as sergeant of the town's Army Cadet corps.

Mr Ward - Mr Haines's uncle - leaves a wife, Julie, and children Mark, 17, Ian, four, and Hazel, seven months. His wife said: "Malcolm wasn't just my husband, he was also my best friend. His family and his kids meant everything to him. We never had any secrets from each other and were going to renew our marriage vows."

Mr Ward was a self-employed coach driver and ran a mobile catering business on the A38 near Copcut.

An eight-year-old boy remains in hospital with leg injuries; a four-year-old boy was released after being treated for injuries caused by a seat belt.
