WYRE Barbedwyre are still top Division Two of the Evesham and District Table Tennis Association after recording a fifth win of the season.

Chris Gooderham made an impact on his return to the side with six wins to maintain a good start in the section averages.

The wins helped his teams to victories over Bengeworth Green (7-3, 9-1), Bengeworth 49ers (7-3), Bengeworth Sap-phires (6-4) and a 10-0 whitewash of Littleton Diamonds.

Currently in second place are the young Bengeworth Lions side who stay unbeaten after claiming three wins and two draws.

Chris Pearce was in inspired form as he won 12 successive singles matches to help his side overcome Bengeworth Sapphires 6-4, Wyre Coils 7-3 and Bengeworth Green 9-1.

They recorded draws against Bengeworth 49ers when the Lions secured a share of the spoils with a good four-set doubles win.

Their other draw was against third-placed Sapphires for whom Paul Gearey and Bill Roberts won two games apiece but the Lions again secured a draw with an easy three-set doubles victory.

The Sapphires, however, lost pace with the leaders after losing 6-4 to the Wyre Coils with Ray Griffiths recording a treble.

The losers improved on that performance with a 9-1 win over the winless 49ers who currently sit rooted to the bottom of the table.

Although they lost to the Coils they were able to secure a draw against Bengeworth Green and get themselves three valuable points.

Green continue to improve after they picked up their second victory of the season with a 6-4 defeat of Littleton Diamonds.

Dan Wood, Bryan Kirkman and Geoff Clark all won twice to lift the winners another place up the standings.
