A COUNCILLOR wants immediate action to be taken to fill in a number of potholes which have recently appeared in Claybrook Drive, Matchborough.

The damage was spotted by Matchborough Councillor Juliet Brunner, who believes they are there as a result of traffic being diverted onto the road for several weeks as the Highways Agency carried out about £400,000 of resurfacing work on a section of the A435 through Mappleborough Green.

The land belongs to Worcestershire County Council and a representative from the county's highways unit for Redditch has told Mrs Brunner they do not believe the potholes are serious enough yet for work to be carried out.

Mrs Brunner said: "Diverting heavy traffic along Claybrook Drive for this long period of time has turned it into an assault course for residents, there are so many more potholes it is ridiculous.

"It was bad enough that residents had to put up with congestion while this work took place, now there are concerns that they are going to end up damaging their cars if these holes get any worse.

"The work needs to be carried out immediately."

A highways unit spokesman said: "After concerns raised by Councillor Brunner last week, someone from the unit was went to Claybrook Drive to inspect it and although there are potholes, they are not yet of a depth where they have to be filled.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and it the problem deteriorates, the highways unit will carry out the work."
