STUDLEY'S vital breast screening service, which was withdrawn after its mobile home was vandalised, is to be reinstated.
Community leaders are delighted the Warwickshire, Solihull and Coventry Breast Screening Service has succumbed to pressure and agreed to return its mobile van to the village this month.
Last November, the service wrote to all Studley GPs advising them the breast screening van would not be returning to the village after yobs defaced it three years ago.
The unit had its trailer lights smashed and the electric cable was destroyed after youths used it to swing from.
GPs were advised that the nearest service would be at the Greig Centre in Alcester.
Stratford District Councillor for Studley, Hazel Wright said: "They based their decision to withdraw the service on something which happened three years ago and could have happened anywhere.
"This service is about providing checks locally, so women do not have to travel to get checked out. Why punish Studley?"
She added: "However, the Studley Parish Council, myself and some other district councillors put on pressure for the reinstatement of the service and I am pleased to say they agreed.
"This is very good news for Studley. And I urge woman to use this service because breast cancer can be fatal," said Mrs Wright.
The service will be available to women referred by their GPs in the car park of Studley Village Hall, off the High Street from Monday, January 30.
