A COUPLE of heroic Redditch firefighters brought a man back to life after he collapsed outside his Woodrow home following a fire in his bathroom.
Paul Johnson and Stan Houghton gave life-saving CPR to the 45-year-old man after he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pavement of his home in Doverdale Close, Woodrow on Saturday night.
Redditch's Blue Watch was called to the house at 9.45pm to reports of an electrical fire in the ground floor bathroom, which is thought to have been started in the engine of a dehumidifier.
Fire station manager Ian Prust said: "The fire crew rescued one man who was suffering from serious smoke inhalation.
"However, when they took him outside he collapsed on the pavement and suffered a cardiac arrest."
As well as administering CPR, the two firefighters used the brigade's new oxygen therapy mask.
Mr Prust said: "We have had the new equipment for about three months and we use it regularly.
"In this case it certainly helped save this man's life."
After the man was successfully resuscitated, he was taken was taken to the Alexandra Hospital by ambulance and was discharged on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the other firefighters entered the house and extinguished the small fire.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Alec Mackie added: "We are very proud of our team. The brigade is here to offer a service and to save lives."
