FIFTEEN minutes from time and Andy Robbins was seemingly set to claim his second win as Pershore Town manager.

However, three goals from Alveston left the King George's outfit reflecting on a 4-2 defeat last Saturday and Robbins with plenty to do if he is to maintain the Midland Combination club's Premier Division status.

He is under no illusions about the task that he faces during the second half of the season but the man who won nine trophies in a successful five-year reign at Littleton is "extremely excited" about his new role.

"The club is a sleeping giant with a great infrastructure," Robbins admitted. "It's going to take a lot of hard work but I've got the appetite for the job and it will be a big test to see if I am up to it."

Robbins has already signed up a trio of former Littleton players in the shape of skipper Mark Gledhill, Chris Wright and Curtis Major and other new signings are expected in the next few weeks.

Former Evesham strikers Andy Hodgetts and Kays Sibanda scored the goals that gave Town a 2-1 second half lead but Robbins put his side's defeat down to a "lack of fitness".

The players were put through their paces at training on Tuesday night in readiness for this Saturday's League Cup quarter-final tie with Mile Oak Rovers at King George's.

"It's a great chance to give us a platform for the rest of the season," said Robbins. "A win will leave the players with plenty to look forward to and hopefully bring back a few of the supporters who have stayed away. But, the main priority is for Pershore to stay in the Premier Division and I believe we are more than capable of doing that."
