A TOP housing firm has been announced as the main sponsor of Droitwich Spa Football Rugby Club in a deal worth £100,000.

Persimmon Homes South Midlands, based in Studley, will be the main sponsors of the Spa club during the five-year deal.

The funding will not only assist the club in its quest to make significant improvements to the existing facilities at the Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground in Hanbury Road, but will also help contribute to ground maintenance of the 33-acre site and facilitate the purchase of vital new equipment.

The home and away kit will sport the Persimmon logo and the ground will become home to brand new signage.

Club secretary Phil Hopkins said: "Persimmon's funding will enable the club to fulfil a programme of much-needed investment, the most pressing being maintenance and renewal of equipment. We are delighted to have them on board."

Mark Platts, deputy managing director for Persimmon's South West division, added: "Our involvement with the club spans many years.

"This includes the provision of their new ground off Hanbury Road as an integral part of the redevelopment by Persimmon of the former rugby ground."
