IT happened in the sixties. We watched whilst concrete high-rises took the place of warm, living communities. Now it is corporate business crushing individual life out of small towns like Droitwich.

To allow the destruction of a small enclave of individual and highly prized businesses such as Droitwich Hardware and Facets Caf shows either appalling ignorance or complete disregard for what gives Droitwich Spa its special appeal.

Facets Caf is unique. Its standards have never faltered in the many years it has been in business. It is in a part of town where no other caf exists. Where many a weary shopper is glad to climb the stairs to restore themselves with all that the caf has to offer. It is a meeting place for friends. In fact it now has a 'friends'sofa to collapse onto.

Evidently, when the planners and developers decided to destroy all this, no other place was offered to the owners in which to recreate Facets.

Many of the buyers of the overspill of new houses and flats in Droitwich have moved here thinking they are coming to a small pleasant Worcestershire town. Are they making a grave mistake?

It is up to we who live here to prove otherwise.
